Microorganisms are a life form that cannot be visualized without the aid of a microscope. These tiny beings can be found in the air, in the ground, and even in man.

Regarding his contact with man, this can occur in a positive and indispensable way to life (nitrifying bacteria) or quite negative, in this case, the harmful effects to health, and even to the life of man, occurs by contact with Pathogenic microorganisms (disease causing).

These tiny beings are not all the same, they can be very different in size and way of life. However, they all have in common a very simple structure and the impossibility of being seen without using a microscope.

The knowledge of this type of life came from discoveries that took place over many years. The culmination of these discoveries occurred in 1878, when Pasteur introduced the "Germ Theory", and thereafter the so-called Bacteriological Era began.

Pasteur's research was accompanied by a large number of scientists and doctors. Some of them, impressed by the findings, made quite significant changes in their working methods.

In addition to the already identified and classified microorganisms (bacteria, fungi and parasites), there was another category that could only be observed after the invention of the electron microscope. It was a being of quite simple organizational structure and presumed existence: the virus.

Only after the invention of the microscope was it possible to identify a wide variety of living things. From then on they became part of the classification of living beings into kingdoms.
